Zurenuoc’s homecoming stirs anger

FORMER Chief Secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc’s homecoming prompted Morobe leaders to criticise the Government.
They said the Government was “unprofessional” while receiving Sir Manasupe at Nadzab Airport on Monday.
Provincial government officials, public servants and Governor Kelly Naru received Sir Manasupe with tears as the small King Air C90 plane touched down. Naru expressed his dissatisfaction over the manner in which the Government treated Sir Manasupe by sending him back home silently as any other ordinary officer.
“Morobeans with passion in their hearts sent our favourite son (Sir Manasupe) as a young and healthy man to serve the country. Now we have received him as a bag of vegetables sent in a small aeroplane back to us,”Naru said.
Naru said that Morobe people were unhappy with the way the Government sent their prominent bureaucratic adviser back home.
Provincial government business minister Charlie Foike said Sir Manasupe should have travelled in the Falcon jet.
“Where are the Morobe parliamentarians in the Government bench, why is there no protocol and organised programme instead of just sending our son back home silently as any ordinary person?” Naru said.
Deputy Governor Judas Nalau appealed to the Government not to use Sir Manasupe’s name on their renovated Mauri Haus in Waigani.
“Why will the Government rehabilitate the so-called old Pineapple building and name it Sir Manasupe Building as the building?
“If Government wants to use Sir Manasupe’s name, set up a new structure and name it after him instead of this gimmick,” Nalau said.
