AIR Niugini has recognised its long-serving employees with awards as it prepares to celebrate its 43rd anniversary.
More than 20 employees received their awards during a Milestone Dinner on Wednesday.
Air Niugini chief executive officer Simon Foo commended them for their contribution to the airline’s growth.
“Air Niugini was formed on November 1, 1973 in the amalgamation of TAA (Trans Australia Airlines), Qantas Airways and the Government of Papua New Guinea,” Foo said.
“When the airline was formed, there were very many words used that were derogatory – such as Air Bagarap and Air Kokonas.
“But we have come a long way in 43 years.
“Our people are very highly skilled and trained and are a very competent in an industry that is highly regulated.
“And you are a part of this and have been the backbone of Air Niugini for the past 43 years.
“Being here for these period of time shows that you are very loyal people and very committed.
“But it also shows that Air Niugini is a very good company.”
Air Niugini operates 26 domestic destinations and 11 international destinations in 9 countries across Asia and Oceania.
