POLICE in Eastern Highlands have arrested and charged four men for allegedly attempting to terrorise their fellow villagers.
Eastern Highlands police commander Superintendent Alex N’Drasal said the four men were from Gotomi village in Lufa district and Gosaroka village.
They are Jeff Nathan, Awa Iyaro and Nelson Ekepo from Gotomi village, and Junior Jeff from Gosaroka.
He said they were carrying a pistol and a shotgun.
They allegedly fired shots at Gosaroka villagers.
No one was injured. The villagers rounded them up and handed them over to police.
They have been charged with being in possession of unlicensed firearms and discharging them “without lawful authority”,  N’Drasal said.
The incident occurred at around 4.45pm on July 4. Meanwhile, he said they also arrested a man who was allegedly pretending to be the military commander who was trying to book accommodation for 52 soldiers at a guest house.
N’Drasal said the man went to the guest house and got a quotation for the accommodation costing K90,900. He said the man admitted to police that he had lied to the receptionist at the guest house that he was the Defence Force commander.
“Upon his admission, the suspect was brought to the police station, questioned and arrested. He was locked up at the Goroka police cell,” N’Drasal said.
