Japan to build new classrooms

A GRANT to cover a contract for K821,000 was signed at the Japanese Embassy in Port Moresby yesterday to build new classroom and a community resource centre to benefit more than 13,000 people.
Ambassador Morio Matsumoto signed the grant contract with Warabung Primary School in East Sepik, Ugu Primary School in Hela, Raiyakam Elementary School in Enga and Foundation for Rural Development (FORD) in Jiwaka who are recipients of the Japanese government Grant assistance for grassroots human security projects.
“I would like to congratulate these three schools and one local NGO for being the successful recipients of our GGP grants which will go towards addressing your need for new facilities,” Matsumoto said.
He said projects such as GGP and Jica (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) strengthened the relationship between Japan and PNG
“I would like to congratulate PNG for having its 41st independence anniversary in September which also commemorates the 41st anniversary of relationships between Japan and PNG.
“Our bilateral relations have been a developing so quickly and we are having a very good economic cooperation as well as friendship amongst our people so I feel very happy and so my task here is to promote such friendship in the future.
“I am very proud that we have been doing very good activities in past few years and also I’m looking forward to having more specific cooperation project in the years to come.”
Representatives the recipient institutions, Paul Hauaiemb, George Urai, Mathew Maku and Andreas Pu’u thanked the Japanese government for the funding and support. Warabung Primary School will get a two storey classroom, Raiyakam Elementary School a classroom and furniture, Ugu Prmary School a classroom and a teacher’s house, and FORD a two storey building and furniture.
