Japan installs equipment at Lae fish market

THE Overseas Fishery Corporation Foundation (OFCF) of Japan is making the final installations at the K1 million National Fisheries Authority-funded Lae fish market.
The OFCF has installed modern equipment including a plate ice machine, a blast freezer, cool storage, an office, a tool room and mini fish selling and buying point within two weeks.
The NFA has funded the market in collaboration with Morobe Fisheries Management Authority (MFMA) and several other sheds for fresh produce, poultry products, tobacco, lime and local crafts and furniture’s.
OFCF advisor Katsuji Fujita said that it cost them K420,000 to install the equipments for fish storage and preparation.
MFMA manager John Joseph commended the NFA for the marvelous gift.
Joseph said that the facility would be opened at the end of this month and accessed by coastal fishermen and fresh food farmers.
