New Ireland’s Namatanai town set for double celebration

NAMATANAI town in New Ireland will host a three-day event to mark the 42nd Independence anniversary and the opening of a college.
The Dalnan group of businesses will be hosting activities to coincide with the launching of the Allied Career Business and Technical College.
Dalnan Investment Ltd will launch the status of the school to become a college next year. Managing director of Dalnan Investment Ltd and institution director Towarpin Burso said the new college would be offering certificate and diploma courses next year to New Ireland students and those from other provinces.
He said the school had been facing difficulties this year because students failed to pay their full school fees. Board of governors fundraising committee chairperson Edna Bulumaris said prizes would be awarded to singing groups, choir groups and string bands.
Singing groups from East New Britain, New Hanover Island in Kavieng and string bands in Namatanai have confirmed their participation during the three-day event to be held at Raulili Estate. A fashion show featuring female student vying for the Miss Allied Career title, volleyball for men and women and rugby union 7s for men will be staged.
Burso said Namatanai was a very  peaceful town but the change in economic conditions  the past four years had seen a lot of changes taking place.
