Schools closing and still no TFF

MANY schools in Morobe have not received their fourth-quarter Tuition Fee Free (TFF) shares and the school year has ended.
Morobe Education adviser Keith Jiram said all commercial banks were instructed to move the money into respective school accounts whenever it was paid in.
“For now, all school accounts have been frozen since last Friday while this week is up for administrative matters only,” he said.
“When the money will be paid into the school accounts is something that is in the hands of the authorities and I cannot say anything about that.”
Jiram said schools registered for the funds would receive theirs and unregistered schools would face financial problems, adding the provincial administration would do its best to address that.
Meanwhile, Jiram is supportive of a government suggestion to bring in science and mathematics teachers from India.
“That is a move in the right direction to improve our education system as there are possibilities of raising the standards and quality in education for our people,” he said. “India is one of the leading countries in terms of developing its own human resources in engineering, science and other fields. The move is sure to provide quality education for our students.”
Jiram said the Morobe education team should visit Japan to be familiar with the standard-based education system as the current one is based in their system.
The standard-based system under the reform is based on their system with inputs from other countries, he said.
