THE head teacher in a remote school in the Hube local level government of Morobe has raised concerns about tuition fee free funds meant for schools being directed to contractors.
Pindiu Agro High School head teacher Peter Matengim said his school development was on hold since last year because of delays in funding.
Matengim told The National the school needed more classrooms and teachers’ houses  to meet the increasing demand of education in the area.
He said the school was a level six school and required 12 teaching positions but only nine teachers were at the school because of  accommodation difficulties. He said lack of  teaching materials and services were  contributing to a decrease in school roll.
“The school has the potential to increase enrolment and teaching but we do not have the capacity to ensure that because of funding delays for infrastructure,” Matengim said.
“There has to be supervision and proper planning according to the information school managers provide and students shouldn’t become victims of this slow process in getting educated in better classrooms.”
“Currently, the school has nine semi- permanent classrooms, a mess made of bush materials, four male and female semi-permanent dormitories, an incomplete teacher’s house and two incomplete double classrooms.
Pindiu Agro High was established in 2005 and accommodates Grades 9 and 10 students, with a 350 roll.
