WEST New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel has paid K200,000 to Telikom PNG to establish telecommunication infrastructure in the province.
Telikom will set up a site on Bali Island in Talasea to facilitate access to 3G and 4G networks in the area.
Telikom PNG general manager engineering and network services Jeffrey Bean said they were looking forward to bringing service to the province.
“We would like to acknowledge your contribution in helping us roll out the new 3G 4G network across the country,” he said.
“We are glad that you are seeing it as a tool for development as it almost the same as a road or a bridge enabling the rural areas to get connected.
“What it means with the new 3G 4G network is that there almost endless possibilities such as mobile banking getting alerts, transferring medical files from a rural health centre to your headquarters and we at Telikom are glad that you are seeing it in that light and put something on Bali Island.”
Muthuvel said Telikom services were needed in the province.
“We want Telikom to come to our province and expand that 3G 4G network and to give us priority in West New Britain.”
