A COURT was told yesterday that a woman charged with attempted murder escaped from custody while awaiting the case to be called.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Peter Samghy told the Committal Court in Waigani that Helen Kaita, 26, from Iavavai village in Goilala, Central, escaped while awaiting her case.
She was charged with attempting to kill a Jude Siperi.
Samghy asked Magistrate Mekeo Gauli for a warrant of arrest for Kaita. Gauli granted the request and told police to arrest her and remand her in custody until March 31 when she should be brought to court.
It is alleged that on Jan 19, Siperi, a teacher from Goilala, was returning from a meeting for Goilala teachers at the St Joseph’s Catholic College in Port Moresby when Kaita allegedly hit him with a knife.
His colleagues took him to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
