Police arrest Indonesians

POLICE have arrested four Indonesians for illegally entering villages in Kikori, Gulf, to buy fish innards.
Provincial police commander Sailas Wayagure said the Indonesians were caught at Samao village buying the fish parts to take back to Merauke in the Papua province to be resold in the black market.
“Two of them are now detained at Kerema police station while two others, including a local man, have been taken to Port Moresby and now detained at the Badili police station,” he said.
Wayagure said the local and two Indonesians were brought to Port Moresby because of overcrowding at the Kerema police station cells.
The district court magistrate was on his court circuit and the men were brought over to Port Moresby to appear in the Central provincial court.
Wayagure said they also confiscated their dinghy, a 40-horse power engine and an esky packed with ice.
He said buying and selling of fish innards was a lucrative business. They are processed to be used as medicine.
Wayagure said Gulf was a big and isolated province next to Western. So international criminals operating in the Western along the PNG-Indonesia-Australia borders can easily bring their illegal activities into the province.
