The incidence of non-communicable diseases in Papua New Guinea is rising, creating the double burden observed in most developing countries, a report says.
The report by Australian Doctors International said tobacco and alcohol were considered to be the main causes of lifestyle disease in the country.
The related lifestyle diseases as a results of taking alcohol, tobacco and chewing betel nut includes diabetes and hypertension and cancer – especially oral cancer caused by chewing betel and tobacco, and cervical cancer.
