Daulo to produce bulb onion

Fresh Produce Development Agency general manager Mark Worinu says Daulo in Eastern Highlands has the potential to become the hub of commercial bulb onion production as well as other food crops.
He said this after the signing of a major three-year partnership arrangement between the Daulo district development authority and the FPDA, which will be supported by a budget of K700,000. It will be reviewed after three years for continuation.
Daulo MP Ron Ganarafo signed for the district while Worinu signed for FPDA.
Under this agreement, FPDA will establish 20 bulb onion model farms in Daulo, establish farmer groups and develop a marketing chain, and link up with major buyers.
This MOA is part of FPDA’s nationwide partnership roll out programme, and is in line with its vision to increase production, supply and improve consistency in terms of quality of local produce.
Ganarafo said one of his priority areas was agriculture as most people in the district were involved in agricultural activities to support their livelihoods.
Daulo chief executive officer Ipa Seke confirmed that the MOA would be supported by the district administration and thanked Ganarafo for making available funds for such important projects.
Worinu said: “We are encouraged by our MP and district administration, therefore, we will work  with the community and stakeholders to ensure that their vision is achieved.”
