THE Popondetta Netball Association is finally getting its act together to revive the code in the Northern province capital.
The association ceased operating several years ago but the Oro Country Netball Association’s two veteran’s Phyllis Deboa and Mabel Isa have ignited former players Evelyn Lala, Christina Nagi and Prisca Morris to make it their business to promote and develop the game in the province.
The competition started off with primary school teacher Julie Jason taking charge of a schools competition in the junior divisions.
Since the junior competition was introduced Deboa, Isa, Jason and Miriam Embahe have been actively involved to ensure that the senior competition was up and running.
Oro Country Netball Association president Phyllis Deboa said it was good to see seniors returning to the sport they had once played and were very good.
“We had our tournament to select juniors and seniors for the national championship and PNG Games,” Deboa said.
“But unfortunately it was too late for the juniors to prepare for the nationals but the seniors are preparing for the two events.”
