Polye relays condolences to late Nape’s family

OPPOSITION Leader Don Polye has expressed his condolences to the family of the late former Speaker Jeffrey Nape.
He said they worked with Nape “through tough and challenging times”.
The two-term Speaker and Sinasina-Yonggomugl MP died last Friday morning at the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby.
Nape, 52, who had three wives and nine children, was an accountant by profession from Koge village, Sinasina-Yonggomugl, Chimbu.
Nape was a National Alliance party candidate who with Sir Michael Somare halted the dominance of the People Democratic Movement during the 2002 national election.
He went on to become a two-term Sinasina-Yonggamugl MP between 2002 and 2012.
He was also the Parliament Speaker during that period and was instrumental in ensuring that the Government led by  Sir Michael stayed in power. But in August, 2011, he was instrumental in having People’s National Congress leader Peter O’Neill become the Prime Minister while Sir Michael was receiving medical treatment in Singapore.
He lost the 2012 national election as a Triumph Heritage Party candidate.
