A ROADMAP to promote Buka as a tourism hub was launched in Bougainville town last week.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tobias Kulang and Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) tourism vice-minister Robert Hamal Sawa launched the Buka Tourism Development Initiative 2016-2020 last Thursday.
The initiative would be a strategic roadmap towards making Buka a tourism hub by 2018.
It would be a programme aimed at pursuing tangible developments through to 2020 and beyond by establishing a Solomon Seas Tourism Zone initiative which would enable cooperation and links to the wider Pacific.
“The onus is now with the people of Bougainville to take ownership of the initiative in supporting the ABG and other relevant authorities with the programme. Tourism is a hidden pot of gold in Bougainville that needs to be tapped into to be realised,” Kulang said.
“The launching signifies the beginning of greater things to be achieved by the tourism industry in Bougainville and Papua New Guinea as a whole.”
