Compo claims will not be entertained, says Polye

ACTING Prime Minister Don Polye has told people living along the Highlands Highway that there will be no more compensation once legislation is passed by parliament.
Polye told the National Broadcasting Corporation Talkback programme last week that legislation was being drafted to outlaw compensation claims.
He told the people that the government, with the support of foreign partners, had allocated millions of kina to rehabilitate the Highlands Highway.
“You must not plant new trees, food crops, build houses and make new developments within 20m of the road.”
Polye said the government could not use the same basket of money to pay compensation and then build roads to bring health, education and other much needed services to the community.
He said the new road and transport law would outlaw compensation by landowners who had been a hinderance to service delivery by the government.
The Minister for Works, Transport and Civil Aviation talked about current issues, including the recent plane crash in Misima, the alleged use of PNG airspace from aircraft not getting clearance and shipping.
