12 hit out in off-season league

WILLIAM Duma off-season rugby league competition kicks off at the Gomis Oval in Mt Hagen over the weekend.
To make this year’s competition tough, the league management cut down on the number of teams for this year’s competition.
Twelve teams out of the 18 sides and  will be competing this season.
Various leagues in the province are also gearing up to start the off-season in their bid to discover players with potential to play in the Wantok Gaming Systems Kuris for next year’s bemobile Cup challenge.
Teams participating in this year’s competition are Warakum Bulls, Young Guns, Dark Street Raiders, Three Kona Hawks, Kongri Farmsets, Southern Sons, Tarangau Settlers, Tech Bombers, Nokondi, Kala Warriors, Bishops, and KC Bombers.
League president Obert Womnaik said the league had produced some key players who had been playing for the Kuris and Wamp Nga Eagles.
He said teams participating in the competition comprised mostly of youths from the settlements and it was a positive sign to doing something worthwhile and keeping them out of illegal activities.
He commended  MP  Duma for his continuous support to the league.
Duma chipped in K57,000 to the league last year.
He also thanked Brian Bell & Co Ltd and other companies for also assisting the league.
Duma started supporting the league when he was a private lawyer before becoming a politician and 2010 marks 10 years.
