OIL Search Ltd (OSL) has emphasised the need for a sustained and committed response to HIV/AIDS in the areas in which it operates.
OSL, through its public health unit (PHU), has channelled its support right into the communities in its project areas with its ongoing HIV programme and annual activities marking World AIDS Day (WAD) which began on Nov 24 and ended on Dec 3.
WAD activities included putting up red ribbons on buildings at all facilities in Kutubu, Moro, Hides, Gobe and Port Moresby and carrying out awareness campaigns in all project locations and village communities.
The campaigns also involved people living with HIV (PLHIV) and local advocates from the project areas playing a key role throughout the week-long programme.
The activities included the screening of informative and educational DVDs on HIV/AIDS such as “A closer walk”.
PHU also created posters for the 2010 WAD activities and sold red ribbon badges to raise funds.
In Port Moresby, OSL registered with BAHA to wear red last Wednesday.
OSL also had the opportunity to attend the Komuniti Tok Piksa photographic (KTPP) exhibition which showed  photos taken by PLHIV or those affected by HIV/AIDS.
The exhibition was held at the OSL’s head office in Port Moresby last Wednesday.
