A STUDENT was chopped to death while his elder brother is nursing knife wounds after an attack by the crew of a PMV near Wau in Bulolo district last weekend.

The dead student, from Siassi island in Morobe, has been placed at the Angau morgue while his brother is being treated at the hospital.

Police are keeping an Engan man at the Bulolo police station lock-up in relation to the killing and the attack while relatives of the victims have seized  a PMV truck with a view to seeking compensation.

Motorists and police said the truck was owned by an Engan, who operates the Wau-Bulolo Highway.

They said the student, who was doing matriculation with the open learning centre at the University of Technology in Lae, and his brother were on their way to visit their parents in Wau when the PMV they were travelling on aborted the trip after Bulolo.

They demanded that they be refunded their fares. In the ensuing altercation, the crew pulled out a knife and chased the brothers, chopping the student and injuring his brother.
