Tanao joins race set for Jan 11

 FORMER member for Kainantu Avusi Tanao has indicated nominating for the governor-general’s post.

Parliament was scheduled to meet next Tuesday to vote in a new governor-general following a Supreme Court ruling on Dec 10 last year.

Tanao was a member of parliament for three consecutive terms between 1982 and 1997.

He served as minister for environment and conservation, police, forest, lands, civil aviation and tourism for a total 15 years.

Tanao said he was optimistic that he would be given due consideration for the vice-regal post.

He is currently a subsistence farmer and gospel outreach leader.

He said he had served the people of the nation with distinction and without any implications in both public and private life and appealed to all 109 members of parliament “to let God guide their conscience in the lead-up to the election of the country’s eighth governor-general.
