Mining forum in Lae

PREPARATIONS are underway for the Morobe mining forum in Lae, Morobe, later this month.
Participants are expected to include MPs, government and mining officials, company executives, community members and their leaders, elites, scientific organisations and stakeholders.
Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS and Member for Huon Gulf Sasa Zibe initiated the forum for all MPs in the province and various stakeholders to come together to debate on various issues relating to mining in the province.
Issues such as landowner issues, conservation and environment, benefits sharing agreements and mining practices by the company, regulatory and legal framework would be priority agenda.
The event is being organised by the provincial government and to be held at the University of Technology campus.
The forum is to look into issues being raised on the operations by the Morobe Joint Ventures Mining.
