THE Oil Search Lae Corporate Daffodil Golf Challenge for 2017 is set for tomorrow with the support of transport company Mapai Transport.
Oil Search and Mapai last Friday contributed K25,000 each for a total of K50,000 to support the event.
The theme for this year is “We care”.
The charity event is a major fundraiser for the PNG Cancer Relief Society whose main aim is to help patients at the National Cancer Treatment Centre at Angau Hospital in Lae.
The event is in its seventh year running at Lae Golf Club.
Oil Search manager communications Ruth Waram at the launch last Friday said her company was pleased to continue its support towards the event. The event had excellent support from the Lae corporate community led by Mapai Transport.
“Oil Search as a proud national company is committed to investing in organisations such as the PNG Cancer Relief Society who try to improve the lives of men, women and children affected by cancer,” Waram said.
“According to the PNG Institute of Medical Research one in 10 deaths in PNG are because of cancer.
And Oil Search and other like-minded organizations such as Mapai are serious about addressing this issue through education and awareness and improving local treatment facilities,” Waram said. She said one can make a difference by supporting the Daffodil Corporate Golf Challenge through registering up to teams or sponsoring prizes and auctioning items.
Chairman of the fundraising committee Jacob Luke thanked Oil Search for initiating the fundraising in the early 2000s initially at the Port Moresby Golf Club and then at the Lae Golf Club.
“Your leadership in this and many community-based services that you have undertaken demonstrate your core social responsibilities,” Luke said.
“We are thankful to Oil Search and are equally honored Mapai Transport is part of this event. We will continue to support the cause in the years come,” Luke said.
