MINISTER for Lands and Physical Planning Lucas Dekena has committed K20,000 to the Kongo Coffee Warriors to boost their campaign in the Digicel Cup challenge this season.
Dekena has made a commitment to allocate funding for the Warriors every year and last weekend was no exception.
He provided a similar financial backing last year when Warriors were accepted into the semi-professional competition after three years in hibernation.
Dekena, who is a member of the ruling National Alliance party and Gumine MP, challenged the management and players to maintain high standards of discipline.
He is hoping the Warriors would win the Digicel Cup this year.
He also thanked Kongo Coffee Ltd for continuing as the major sponsor for this year’s competition.
Upon receiving the money, Warrior’s franchise owner Jerry Kapka lauded Dekena for his continuous support to the Warriors.
He said the team was for the people of Chimbu and the support was needed to boost the morale of the team to enter the competition with a sound and positive mind.
Apart from supporting Warriors, Gumine Works Unit which was established under Dekena’s leadership has sponsored Gumine Pythons to participate in the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup rugby league challenge.
A number of players have moved out of the Pythons to the Warriors. Inside centre Sonny Daing is one of the products of the Pythons.
Chimbu Governor Fr John Garia has also allocated K100,000 to Warriors, funds budgeted for in the Simbu provincial government budget.
In last Sunday’s encounter, the Warriors held  Hela Wigmen side to a 4-4 draw.
