Settlers raise land-grabbing concerns

Main Stories

SETTLERS at 4-Mile in Lae raised land-grabbing issues to Lae MP John Rosso when he visited them yesterday.
About 100 settlers came to meet the MP.
Most of the settlers originated from the coastal areas to pour their grievances to the MP of the tactics that some of the community leaders had instigated. They told Rosso that they had been living in the area for about 30 years.
One of the issues raised by the settlers was that some of the known community leaders had conspired with the Housing Commission and Lands Department officials to grab land. The community leaders along with officials from the two organisations had been land grabbing over the years, they said.
Rosso told them that he could get a one-side of the story but needed to round it up with people who were involved in an open-table discussion.
