DIGICEL Ltd yesterday unveiled PNG’s first 3D billboard showcasing three of the heroes of PNG’s premier rugby league tournament, the Digicel Cup.
The dramatic 3D billboard, located at the Konedobu roundabout in Port Moresby, sees the players virtually “Come Alive” from the advertising hoarding as the shape of their heads and bodies sticks out on top of the giant billboard.
One of the three players featured was Port Moresby Vipers’ secondrower  Steven John who said he felt like the prime minister when he saw his face on the impressive billboard.
Speaking at the unveiling of the campaign John said: “I was shocked when I saw the billboard at first and I feel like the prime minister with my face up there.
“Some of my family have been teasing me about it.
“Now I have to back it up on the field.
“It’s really great that Digicel is helping to promote our games as we really feel the benefit on the pitch when there are big crowds at the PRL to support us,” John said.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s Digicel Cup action John added: “We are second on the ladder and on Sunday we’ll show the Hela Wigmen whose homeground Lloyd Robson oval is, no matter how many Kumul players they throw at us.”
Digicel CEO John Mangos said: It’s only six weeks into the Digicel Cup and we are delighted with how it has developed and you can already see how standards have lifted from previous years.
“As you can see from our television adverts and these new billboards we are committed to supporting and showcasing the very best home grown league talent that PNG has.”
The two other players featured in the 3D billboard are captain of the reigning premiers Glen Nami of Bintangor Goroka Lahanis and Barry Pakeae from the new franchise Gulf Isapeas.
The new billboard campaign which uses eight players from the Digicel Cup is part of Digicel’s “Come Alive” marketing campaign which aims to increase the profile of the teams and players.
