Tuition fees two years late for school

AN ELEMENTARY school in Lae did not receive any tuition fee-free subsidy in 2015 and 2016, its head teacher says.
Naomi Opints, the head teacher of the Huonville Elementary School for the last four years, yesterday revealed the situation the school had been facing.
The school enrolled 895 students this year and has 15 teachers.
Opints said that in 2015/16 the school did not receive its TFF because a student census form had not been filled.
“We expect to receive K250,000 because of the number of students that we have but we received only K60,000 which is less than what we expected. We still have K100,000 plus outstanding for the year of 2017,” Opints said.
“The number of children is growing every year.
“We want the Education Department to have a look into the number of children we have and pay the tuition fee-free subsidy in full.
“We need stationeries for the school to run.”
Opints said the Government should pay the subsidy quarterly so that could help the school to function.
“The number is getting big and every year we expect more and more children,” Opints said.
“There are even more than 100 children on wait list to be enrolled with some transferring in.
“Yet, we do not have space available. Therefore TFF subsidy must be paid in full to help us accommodate children and build new infrastructures.”
