In God’s hands

Letters

SINCE winning the SP Cup in 2000, the Mioks have lost three grand finals, the last to the Goroka Lahanis after emulating the 2000 season by winning the minor premiership.
I have been following the Hunters and have given less attention to the Digicel Cup competition.
However, I have always kept it in the corner of my mind that the Mioks will continue to lose at every grand final simply because they have failed to thank the God of Israel for delivering the 2000 premiership to them.
In our presence the good Lord prophesied through Joe Tomerop during our Sunday worship that he would deliver us the win in the last minute even if the Gurias dominated the game. It was God’s plan to reveal to us that he was real.
We invited prayer warriors in the city to intercede for the team and the rooms that were assigned to us were all prayed over and sealed with olive oil.
On Sunday morning we had our worship near the swimming pool.
On the field, the Gurias dominated the game. The Mioks did not play their usual game and it seemed that only nine players were playing against the whole Gurias team.
The Gurias led 16-8 with eight minutes left on the clock.
Then the incredible happened.
With seven minutes remaining a penalty was awarded to the Mioks within Gurias’ 10-metre goal line. Robert Tela converted for two points and narrowed the scoreline to 16-10.
Four minutes later, Peter Saa scored a centre try and Tela converted to equalise 16-all.
Just before fulltime, Mioks’ Peter Kati crossed over under the uprights for a converted try and the Mioks had come from behind to defeat the Gurias 22-16, just as it had been prophesied. God had delivered a win to the Mioks to prove that he was alive.
There were celebrations everywhere, even in the bus on our way back to the hotel, but no one remembered to thank God for the win.
I believe the Mioks will continue to lose until the team reconciles with God.
