ACTING Registrar-General Noel Mobiha urged affected public, especially those travelling overseas, to call their default number 313 3000 for help with temporary arrangements from the PNG Immigration Office due to the NID system outage.
Mobiha said this yesterday when speaking to the media on the NID system outage since last week.
He said they were talking with Huawei technology experts to try to bring the system back.
“We should move quickly with our talks with Huawei to get our system back as we have a lot of kids going to school overseas who require identity cards and certificates,” Mobiha said.
“Overseas travellers should call on the above default number for help and if they can’t be sorted out they should ask for my telephone extension and I can get to help them.
“It can be frustrating at this point in time when our children are preparing to go overseas for studies, but the positive side of the outage such as this is, it also gives us the opportunity to look at our default arrangements in such circumstances, which we haven’t thought about previously.
“So, since last weekend, we are working with the Immigration Office on trying to fast-track the certificates for children, and adults on how we are going to uplift a default arrangement for them.”
Mobiha said his policy team was leading talks with the contractor to try to restore the system.
