Call for journalists to apply for UN fellowship programme

The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists is now accepting applications from young professional journalists from Papua New Guinea for its 2019 fellowship at the United Nations’ headquarters in New York, USA.
The fellowship is open to all practising journalists from developing countries who are between the ages of 25 and 35.
The successful journalists would have the incomparable opportunity to observe and report international diplomatic deliberations at the 74th UN General Assembly during the opening 10 weeks.
Only four journalists would be selected to spend three months at the UN headquarters, giving them access to seasoned journalists from around the world and UN professionals.
UN Resident Coordinator in PNG, Gianluca Rampolla, said: “Media plays a central role in advancing development and is an important enabler for civic participation and empowerment.
“Journalists equip us with the knowledge to make decisions affecting our lives.
“I encourage young professional Papua New Guinean journalists to apply for the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists 2019 fellowship programme.
“It is a great learning and networking experience and an opportunity to gain a bigger perspective on global issues.”
Under the fellowship, support to the journalists would include a round-trip airfare to New York, accommodation, health insurance for the duration of the fellowship, and a daily allowance.
Interested journalists must have the support of their organisations to take on this fellowship if they are successful.
The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists is a not for profit organisation set up by journalists at the UN as a living memorial to the legacy of peace, progress and justice following the untimely death of the second UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld.
