FIVE Defence Force officers have been given titles of director of various sections.
Lt-Col Harris Lange is the director for personnel administration, Lt-Col Daniel Fungke is director repatriation, Lt-Col Rodney Yahamani is the director legal service, Major Elvis Toba is the officer-in-command of the Military Police and Major Joshua Dopar is the Staff Officer 2 Provost.
The titles were bestowed on them by defence force Commander Brigadier-General Gilbert Toropo.
Toropo said the appointments would play a significant role in the department this year.
“Promotions comes with responsibilities and the department has given the trust to you all,” he said.
He said the force had undergone reform in the past five years, including the replacement of officers who had retired.
“They have to make certain courses to be promoted from major to lieutenant-colonels,” he said.
Some of the new directors have served for more than 25 years.
He said the recent signing of the memorandum of understanding between Australia and PNG on the upgrading of the naval base in Lombrum, Manus, marked the start of work this year.
