POM cricket teams impress

cBNG Poreporena, Trukai Hoods and Badili Hardware Wanderers were impressive in the first round of the Port Moresby senior cricket competition.
Poreporena 8-148 defeated Kempa all-out for 30 runs in seven overs with Kabua Vagi (5-8) and Alei Nao (5-21) destroying Kempas batting order.
Trukai Hoods punished Monier-sponsored Kira Kira Cricket Club with a 79-run win.
Hoods led by Archie Vala 67 not out and Sarufa Morata’s 60 set up a big total of 212 target.
In reply, KCC were all bowled out for 133 runs with Vivian Maha (3-12) the main wicket taker.
Wanderers (7-185) defeated the high flying PMMI Coasters (10-183) by three wickets in a close match.
Coasters skipper Chris Amini led by example with 88 runs while Jacob Mado kept his form with the ball taking 3-38.
In reply, Wanderers Lega Tau (32) and Greg Kivung (30) steered their run chase and made sure Coasters bowlers were not given any easy chance of taking wickets.
The one day ladder after round one has Hoods on 8 points followed by Poreporena (7), Wanderers (7), Chilli Sounds Raukele (4), Coasters (3), KCC (3) while Kempa and United are yet to register points.
