KALU Marlins have won the title in the Vovosi 7s tournament defeating Gigo Hurricanes on percentage after both sides remained undefeated throughout the two-day event.
In the bowl final, Kalu Marlins Two defeated Patuki Two 24-12 and in the plate final, Kokolo beat Gigo Hurricanes Two 17-10.
Ponda brothers Gina, Gare and Daniel combined well with Kimbe-based Unitech Reds duo Hunter and Manu to get the Hurricanes to the finals.
But Hubert Vitolo, Jack Mesili and Timothy Pola showed their dominance to push their team ahead with points percentage.
In another entertainment last Sunday, 21 competitors from each club took in an 80m race for cash.
However, it was Andrew Lunga of the Garile Mustangs club from Talasea, who showed his pace to run down the three fastest men to claim K100.
Continuous rain did not dampen the spirits of the teams and their supporters who turned out in numbers for the tournament.
The next leg will be held in Hoskins on Feb 18-19. It will be called the Kalu 7s challenge.
The deadline for registration is Feb 10 and only 18 teams will participate.
West New Britain Rugby Union president Fredrick Mathias thanked Talasea MP Francis Marus for supporting the event in Vovosi and look forward to the next leg in Hoskins.
