Olam keen to improve performance in NRL

MELBOURNE centre Justin Olam says he still needs to improve his game in light of the new ruck rules which were introduced at the resumption of the National Rugby League (NRL).
The Papua New Guinea international finished with 82 running meters and no tackle and line breaks in the Storm’s 50-6 win over the New Zealand Warriors in Sydney on Friday.
“To be honest, I still have a lot to improve on in my game,” said the 26-year old, who recently re-signed with the Storm until the end of the 2022 season.
“With the new rules, I’m still learning and slowly adapting to the game.
“But it’s good that we have (coach) Craig (Bellamy).
“He is one of the best coaches in the NRL so I just try my best to learn as much as I can off him.
“In terms of team performances, I believe we are doing okay and the big win over the Warriors is certainly a big boost for us.
“But with the new six-again rule, I think all the teams are still learning and adapting.
“For us, I am confident because we are in good hands.”
Meanwhile, the former SP Hunter praised fellow Kumuls stars Alex Johnston and Xavier Coates after the pair recorded speeds of 36.9km/h in round six, the fastest in the NRL this season.
“They are both quick and I am not sure (who’s faster),” Olam said.
“I’d like to see them race each other.
“It’ll be interesting to see who wins.
“On a more serious note, we will definitely need their talents heading into next year’s Rugby League World Cup.”

  • Justin Olam need to make himself flexible. Flexibility is needed when are a center who will create runway for your winger. Also he needs more involvement in the rucks in their red zone.

  • Sorry to say but in that particular game he was not performing……

Let’s hope for better games….angra, you got it

  • Justin Olam..Attacking wise he is doing ok but needs more improvement to draw the defenders, fend and pass.Defensively he needs to improve a lot.Take his time to run and meet the opposing player and not too quick like he is currently doing by missing tackles.Last weekends game against the Warriors his opposing centre almost scored 3 tries because of his mistakes by running quickly up towards the centre of the field.Fox Sports commentators continue to repeat those comments .Otherwise Angra thumbs up and improve going forward.PNG is with you.
