Gulf police arrest suspect accused of raping pregnant woman
A 20-year-old pregnant woman on her way for medical attention at Kikori Station in Gulf was grabbed and dragged into the bush and raped until she was rescued by a hospital staff, police said.
The alleged offender was arrested and locked up, acting police commander Snr Insp Michael Pakyei said.
“The man dragged her into the bush and raped her,” he said.
“A hospital staff heard her crying and rescued her.”
Snr Insp Pakyei said the woman was two months pregnant.
She had a quarrel with her husband and was on her way to the hospital when the incident occurred.
“She experienced pains in her body after the argument and went to the hospital,” he said.
“She had passed the suspect along the track and he followed, he grabbed her and raped her.
“The suspect has been charged with sexual penetration and is now in the police station awaiting his court case.”
