Students learn to manage money

THE East New Britain savings and loan society (ENBSL) is doing its part to give individuals, young and old, a chance to learn to manage their money.
A total of 66 grade eight students from Tapo Primary School in the Bitapaka local level government (LLG), Kokopo, opened bank accounts under ENBSL’s Wartovo (school) savings scheme.
ENBSL marketing officer Baryl Toget said students participated in a two-day training on financial literacy which they ran at the school from Oct 5-6.
She said financial literacy was crucial for the development and empowerment of people.
She said two teachers and 18 farmers attended the training.
Toget said Tapo Primary was the first school to have its students attend an ENBSL training on financial literacy.
She said the students have learnt how to budget money and make savings.
“After the training, all the 66 students opened their school savings accounts with a deposit amount of K5 and we will be giving out their passbooks during their graduation in December,” Toget said.

  • That’s the way to go. Teaching children at an early age to save money. This will have a greater impact on their future and to become financially fit and self-dependent.
