City eager to do well

KUMUL Petroleum National Soccer League champions Lae City say they are eager to go deep into the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League next season following their premature exit this year.
It will be City’s sixth-straight Champions League appearance but the first for head coach Bob Morris, who took over from foundation coach Peter Gunemba mid-season.
Franchise owner Ian Chow made it known during the club’s awards ceremony on Saturday that they needed to begin preparations early in order to deliver a stronger campaign next year.
“For City heading into their sixth Champions League appearance, it is too long and more than enough time to produce better results as expected,” the Lae Biscuit Company owner said.
Chow told his men that although they were going for their post-season break today, they needed to start preparing themselves mentally for the regional tournament.
He said they would look at recruiting players from overseas but the final decision would come from former national men’s team boss Morris and his coaching staff.
Morris told his charges that his coaching and technical staff were preparing for the Champions League, and warned them to keep safe and maintain their fitness in the offseason.
He said the team would kick off preparations for their domestic and regional campaigns in January.
Meanwhile, City captain Emmanuel Simon said he was confident that they would rise up to the challenge.
