REIGNING champions West Eagles and Kokofa-Cats registered wins in round three of the Port Moresby AFL (POM AFL) competition at the Colts oval on Saturday.
Kokofa-Cats bounced back with a 40-14 win over the Dockers in the first fixture with centre Glen Saniong leading his side which scored four goals and 16 behinds against the Dockers.
A quiet Dockers outfit with Brendan Bola and Lomax Laho on deck were shut out from scoring opportunities after managing only two goals and two behinds for their final tally.
The main match saw the West Eagles grab their second victory of the season with a 52-21 win over Koboni-Bombers.
Eagles’ Duntsall Kase and Clyde Pulah proved too good for Koboni-Bombers with the Eagles picking up six goals while Koboni-Bombers only managed three.
Eagles Coach Danny Meli said his side were on target with their plans for the shortened season after picking up their second win.
But he said there were still a few areas of the game that the defending champions needed to work on moving forward.
“We started up a bit late in the first quarter and we were falling behind,” Meli said.
“But as the match wore on, we got ourselves back into the game.
“By the third and fourth quarters, we were truly in command.
“But we’ve noted the slow start in our past three matches so it’s a good wake-up call for us.”
