Column 1

No trust
Colleague is wondering why in banks pens are always securely chained to the desk. He trusts the bank with all his money and it cannot trust him with just one pen. Absurd.
Intense lobbying
As to be expected when the numbers on both sides of Parliament are almost even, there is already intense lobbying, horse-trading, wheeling and dealing, horse dealing before the important sitting on Monday. Some cash will change hands but we are not allowed to reveal that.
Something amiss
In the current 109-seat Parliament, the side with the minimum of 55 MPs has the majority. Both camps are claiming they have 55. One side obviously cannot count.
No freedom
Being locked up in a camp for weeks just to ensure no one leaves is almost tantamount to servitude in this modern age. All for the sake of unity?
Too hard
This notice pinned outside a shop in one of the provinces is trying hard to relay a simple message.
Thought for today
Anger does not solve anything. It builds nothing but it can destroy everything.
Top quote
There are six things that will destroy us: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Politics without principles, Science without humanity, and Business without ethics. – Mahatma Gandhi
