Wawi is realising God’s plan for him

WHEN he failed his Grade Six exams in 2000, Wawi George’s world turned into one of despair, of hopelessness, of self-pity.
But he realised, after sulking around at home for four years, that no one else was going to help him but himself.
He therefore re-enrolled in school and managed to complete grades seven and eight in 2005 and 2006 at the Kaukum Primary School. He never looked back.
So when he was awarded the Dux prize last month at the United Pentecostal Church Life and Truth Bible College in Goroka, he realised when God had a plan for him all along.
Today, Wawi, 37, is a pastor and is determined to travel to the remote areas to not only spread the Word to the “unreached” but also to build churches.
“I leave all my plans to God to direct me where to go and what to do. But I am ready.”
He is from Baining in Gazelle. In 2014, he married his sweetheart Jessica from the same area. They have two daughters Valenta and Leah.
In 2007 and 2008, he completed grades nine and 10 at the Pamalmal High School. In 2009, he attended Malabanga Secondary School. But in 2010 when he was in Grade 12, he was forced to leave school because of illness.
“Three weeks before the Grade 12 examination, I quit school because of my illness.”

When he recovered later, he decided to pursue a pastoral career instead.
In 2019, he was selected by the elders of the United Pentecostal Church in Clean-Wara to attend the Truth Bible College in Goroka.
He knew it was an opportunity not to be missed and was part of God’s plan for him. He did not want to mess it up and worked really hard to graduate.
“I came and attended the Truth and Life Ministry and I am happy to graduate with an associate degree in Theology.”
He was also named the Dux in a class of 10.
“I have a plan to return first to my Clean-Wara church in North Baining, East New Britain, and build a permanent church building. Currently there is only a bush material building. I want to spread God’s message in the Bible to my people.”
Pastor Wawai also learnt trade skills while at the college including carpentry, brick making and laying, welding and plumbing. They will all come in handy when he returns home to build the new church building.
After the completion of the church building, he plans to fulfill his dream of spreading the word of God to places where the good news is yet to reach.
It is the pathway God had planned for him initially about failing Grade Six at the Kamakam Community School.
It is clear in Pastor Wawi’s mind how God wants to use him in His ministry on earth. And he is happy to oblige.
