A GROUP of soldiers from the engineering battalion based in Lae arrived in Bulolo yesterday to boost the strength of the security forces.
They will assist police from the Mobile Squad 15 in monitoring counting.
The soldiers were escorted to Bulolo by the police station commander Senior Insp Pomoso and the Bulolo returning officer Raune Jombart.
Frustrated scrutineers who gathered at the Bulolo district administration headquarters since 10am grew restless and demanded an explanation from the returning officer on when counting would start in Bulolo.
Counting for the Bulolo open seat will begin today at St Peter’s Pastoral Centre after all the security arrangements have been finalised.
Ballot boxes for the six local level governments– Waria, Wau Rural, Wau-Bulolo Urban, Watut, Buang and Mumeng– have been taken to the Bulolo police station and locked up in a
container.
Polling was reportedly quiet and peaceful.
Bulolo returning officer Raune Jombart told NBC Radio Morobe yesterday that all the ballot boxes had been stored away safely.
“We are awaiting the deployment of security forces to provide security for the counting officials before counting will begin tomorrow,”Jombart said.
