Madang to host hockey challenge

MADANG are looking forward to hosting the national hockey championships in July since interest has been mounting after their participation at the 4th PNG Games recently.
Team Madang’s hockey squad manager Joe Arua told The National in an interview yesterday that the youths in the province, who were part of the team, had shown interest.
They are now willing to take up hockey seriously.
He also commended other sporting codes who attended the PNG Games as part of Team Madang.
They are keen to support hockey in the province.
“We are now looking at areas we need to polish up to make a big difference at the 5th PNG Games in East New Britain in 2012,” Arua said.
He challenged the squad members to start preparing for the national hockey championships.
He said it would be an opportunity to improve their standing.
Arua added that the National Capital District, Morobe, East New Britain and Manus had shown interest in competing at the event.
“The PNG Games were a learning point for us not only in hockey but other codes that Team Madang did not perform well in. For hockey, it will be a perfect chance for us to make amends,” he added.
He said all the sporting codes were now gauging their performances at the recent PNG Games and would be working their plans to prepare for next games.
