PRIME Minister James Marape has urged Papua New Guineans to exercise their right to vote, saying the Government would do its best to ensure “the playing field is equal in 2022”.
“For the first time after many elections, we’ve funded the Electoral Commission fully according to what they requested,” he said.
“(We) must rise above tribal affiliations and petty politics.
“Don’t (use) the 2022 polls to commercialise your vote.”
Marape urged voters to elect leaders who would make Papua New Guinea better.
“The call on leadership and leadership class is created by people casting votes,” he said.
“If you want to make a change, you have to pick your mark properly. Vote for people who can make a difference.
“You can pray for kingdom to come down but angels will not come down and vote in 2022. You have to vote.
“You have the opportunity to look at the calibre and colour of leadership and vote along party lines.”
Marape attended a fundraising dinner for the People First Party which was founded by former Morobe Governor Luther Wenge and currently led by Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru.
Marape said he supported the party as its policies and visions were in line with Pangu Pati’s.
The People First Party received pledges of up to K600,000 and three vehicles during the event, including a K200,000 pledge from Hela Governor Philip Undialu.
With the 2022 elections coming up, parties are preparing for the poll.
