NATIONAL Under-19 men’s cricket team all-rounder Aue Oru says he is the first person in his family to play the sport.
Meet the 18-year-old from Pari village in Central.
Oru has been playing for several years now and says it is a great game to play and enjoy.
“I’ve played cricket since I was in Grade Six,” he said.
“I’ve been playing cricket because it is fun.
“I am the first person in my family to play cricket.”
His family were elated when they got news of him joining the U19 train-on squad.
As Oru joined the team for his World Cup debut, he said he was excited to explore a foreign country, as he was playing in the World Cup.
“I have great confidence and trust in my teammates,” he said.
“I just want to encourage them all to keep training hard and look forward to playing well in the World Cup.”
Although the Garamuts’ World Cup preparations were short, the youngster said they had been getting much-needed support and mentorship from their coaches and Cricket PNG.
As much as Oru loves playing cricket, he is also talented off the pitch.
His powerful hands aren’t just for bowling and batting.
Oru said he loved playing his guitar when he was in the comfort of his home.
He can never get enough of his local songs, jamming to some good old Motu tunes whether it be by himself or with friends.
Oru is continuing to prepare with the Pacific International Hospital-sponsored team for this month’s World Cup in the West Indies.
