TWENTY clubs in the Kundiawa-Gembogl electorate, Simbu province, are battling for the K50,000 prize money and the Joe Mek Teine Cup.
It is one of the biggest off-season challenges in PNG at the district level.
The winners of the   competition will walk away with K10,000 cash and the cup with runners-up settling for K5,000. The third place team will win K2,500, fourth  K1,300 while teams that finish fifth spot to eighth placing will each receive K600. The rest of the teams who had participated will get K500 as consolation prizes.
Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Joe Mek Teine kicked off the competition last Sunday in front of a big crowd at the Dickson oval.
Teine, who is the parliamentary leader of the PNG National Party and chairman of the Constitutional Reform Committee, said the objective of the event was to build a healthy population, fight lawlessness, stop drugs and the spread of HIV/AIDS and make the district and town a better place to live in.
