THE national government has transferred the special support grants (SSG) of K11 million to the Morobe provincial government for development projects in the Bulolo district and areas impacted by the Hidden Valley Mining (HVM) project.

This was announced by the government team at the HVM project memorandum of agreement (MoA) review meeting in Lae last Friday in response to queries from landowners on the status of the SSG funds.

SSG is a grant that the national government gives annually to provincial governments hosting mining projects.

The K11 million is an accumulated amount for the years 2010-12.

State team member James Norum said K1 million of this fund had already been spent on projects that included the purchase of vehicles for the Bulolo police Mobile Squad 15 and Wau police.

Norum, who is also the state’s representative on the Morobe project management unit (MPMU), which is the committee that deliberates on SSG and projects, said projects identified for funding with the balance of K10 million included the Wau town road sealing, installation of the Kuembu-to-Winima power supply and road upgrading and installation of the Nauti power service and upgrading of road network.
