PM’s wife celebrates day with disabled

 PEOPLE living with disabilities celebrated World Disability Day at the Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.

The all-day celebration involved both adults and children with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s wife, Lynda Babao, as the guest speaker. 

She said the day was a blessing for all disabled people to show their abilities and potential.

“Every child is involved in the celebration,” she said. 

“They are all having fun.”

The project officer for PNG Assembly of Disabled People, Benson Tegia, said it was their special day for individuals with disabilities to express themselves. 

He said the theme ‘sports for all’ was chosen because sports allowed disabled people to be visible.  

“It brings disabilities out from where they are,” Tegia said. 

He added that it was also a special event where a three-year project ‘Travelling together; improving the access of people with disability to road infrastructure in PNG’ would be launched and presented to the Works department.
