LAE women’s team one and Goroka men’s team one won the national bowls championship titles staged in Lae over the weekend.

The championship drew enthusiastic bowlers from the host club Lae, Bulolo, Madang, Goroka, Mount Hagen and the Defence club of Port Moresby to tussle for the champions tag.

In the women’s game, Lae, the defending champions who snatched the title off Defence club last year in Port Moresby, never looked back as they won their games to have a show down with Mt Hagen in the grand final.

The Lae foursome of Angela Simbinah, Priscilla Pomaleu, Lillian Bazo and Cesley Simbinah easily walked over Mt Hagen bowlers to claim the title for a second time after the end of 15 to win the match 24-9 while Defence club of Port Moresby beat Lae team two by two shots up 15-13 for the third place.

In the men’s triple bowls final, it was all Goroka affairs as team one, who won all their games with one loss to Bulolo, were put to the test by team two.

The game went down to the wire when both teams tied 11 all at the 15 end with the last ball remaining for team one that was bowled by Akeke to win the game by one shot up 12-11 to take out the triples tag.
