PNG Ports Corporation Ltd (PNGPCL) has provided a sponsorship of K7,500 towards staging the annual Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) PNG conferences within Papua New Guinea.

PNGPCL chief executive officer Stanley Alphonse said PNGPCL was proud to be associated with CPA PNG.

“PNGPCL, as a developing corporate organisation and employer of some of the best accountants in Papua New Guinea, is happy to support the conferences,” Alphonse said.

“We have 16 staff with accounting background who are members of the CPA PNG and this sponsorship goes to show PNGPCL’s commitment to developing their careers through CPA PNG,” he said.

Supporting the conferences is inline with PNGPCL’s strategic plan to recruit and develop key employees to assist with the growth and development of the corporation.

PNGPCL also aims to strengthen and maintain its relationship with the members of the CPA PNG as part of its community service engagement initiatives.

The corporation’s financial support will assist the organisers to stage the Lae and Port Moresby conferences.

Alphonse said the sponsorship provided an opportunity for PNGPCL to engage and participate effectively in the growth and success of accounting professionals in PNG.

CPA PNG in partnership with its various stakeholders and sponsors such as PNGPCL has staged successful conferences over the years in Lae, Madang and Port Moresby.

This year’s CPA PNG conferences will again be held in Lae, Madang and Port Moresby starting in Madang next month.

CPA PNG initially known as Papua New Guinea Association of Accountants (PNGAA) was incorporated in 1974 under the Associations Incorporation Act by a few practitioners aimed at fostering common understanding, relationships and standards in the fields of accounting and business advisory services in PNG.

The association’s name was changed to CPA PNG when amendments were made to the Accountants Act 1996.

This name change was overwhelmingly accepted by the members as the CPA prefixes and is also well known and widely accepted around the globe.

CPA PNG is the premier accounting professional body in the country with a membership of over 3,000 and growing.
