THE United States and Papua New Guinea held their first-ever bilateral trade dialogue at the end of last month to enhance exchange of commerce between the two countries.

The dialogue, which was held via digital conference between the participants in Port Moresby and Washington, covered bilateral trade relationship, sanitary and phystosanitary regulations, customs procedures, trade preferences under the generalised system of preferences and intellectual property rights.

Improving bilateral understanding on sanitary and phytosanitary regulations and streamlining customs procedures would allow PNG to efficiently import US products, such as foodstuff which should bring down the cost to consumers in Papua New Guinea.
